Key works include separating suburban and long-distance services by laying additional tracks and converting the two-track section into a four-track segment between Katowice-Szopienice-Południowa and Katowice-Ligota, extending to Chorzów Batory.

The project also involves the reconstruction of station track layouts and the installation of new catenary systems.

As part of the project, Alstom has signed a subcontract with the main contractor — the Polish company Torpol.

The modernization of signaling systems includes the reconstruction of 120 structures and 14 platforms, construction of six new platforms at three stations, and the electrification of the section.

A new centralization post will be built at Katowice-Zawodzie station, along with a local control center in Katowice and a service-technical building at Katowice-Ligota station.

Modern microprocessor-based centralization systems will be installed at all stations, with control managed from the central office in Katowice.

Design and implementation of the train control systems will be carried out by Alstom’s Katowice division.
