The system is now operating on the 172 km line linking Wellington and Woodville on the North Island. This launch marks the beginning of a broader digital transformation for KiwiRail’s network.

Alstom plans to gradually expand Iconis TMS nationwide. The system will automate train traffic operations, improve network resilience, and enhance overall capacity.

In addition, it will boost the quality of passenger information. Alstom will support every phase of implementation, including staff training and technical maintenance.

Recently, Alstom rebranded Iconis TMS to Onvia Vision, highlighting its technological evolution. The system is already used in over 70 control centers across 20 countries.

According to the company, Onvia Vision reduces train delays by 10–30% and lowers traction energy consumption by 20%. This is achieved through better schedule planning and traffic flow optimization.
