LTG Cargo: Expanding Intermodal Transportation Capabilities

In June 2024, the first C-series electric train, assembled at Alstom’s local plant, was launched in Perth. This train will be equipped with the new signaling system. Urbalis CBTC, an automated train control system, provides real-time information about the location of trains and the distance between them.

Based on this data, it automatically regulates train speed and movement, helping to maintain safe distances between trains.

The implementation of Urbalis CBTC is expected to increase the capacity of Perth’s rail network by 30-40%.

This significant improvement will help meet the growing demand for transportation.

It is also planned that the energy consumption of the rolling stock will decrease by 33%, leading to significant resource savings.

Alstom has long established itself as a leading supplier of railway equipment in Australia.

From 2019 to 2024, the company won nine tenders with a total value of over $4 billion.

Notable among these are a major order for 41 Metronet passenger trains for Western Australia worth $1.1 billion and an order for 100 Flexity 2 trams for Melbourne worth $938 million.
