Alstom has commenced delivery of Movia metro trains to the Indian city of Bhopal
19.03.2024
The Bhopal and Indore Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) has received the first batch of two three-car trains, assembled at a local factory in Savli as part of the Make in India program, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This follows successful trials of the first train delivered to Bhopal in September last year, which covered over 2,000 km of test runs.
The Ostrava Public Transport Company (DPO) has announced a tender for the supply of trams
Before the trains enter commercial service, the two new sets will undergo similar passenger-free trials.
The contract between Alstom and MPMRCL, worth 32 billion rupees (€387 million), was signed in July 2022 following a tender announced in November 2021.
The French manufacturer’s proposal proved more competitive than that of the Indian company BEML, and includes the delivery of 27 three-car trains to Bhopal and 25 to Indore, as well as providing technical maintenance for the trains over 15 years.
This step underscores the importance of cooperation between different countries in developing transportation infrastructure and contributes to the modernization of urban transportation in India.
