Alstom continues to strengthen its position in the tram market by starting deliveries of new seven-section models in Lyon, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The first of 35 ordered Citadis 402 trams was handed over to SYTRAL, the city’s public transport operator.

This €115 million order was placed in September 2021, and the trams are now ready for operation.
The production of these trams involves seven Alstom plants in France, with final assembly at the La Rochelle plant.
The new trams are similar to previous models supplied by the company but feature an enhanced front section to improve driver visibility and pedestrian safety in case of collisions.
The positioning of handrails has also been optimized for passenger convenience.
Each tram has a capacity of up to 287 people, ensuring efficient passenger flow service.
Lyon’s current tram fleet consists of 106 units, including both five-section Citadis 302 models and the new seven-section Citadis 402.
Additionally, SYTRAL has selected Alstom to modernize 47 Citadis 302 trams delivered in the early 2000s, underscoring trust in the company’s product quality.
