Alstom Foundation Leads Environmental Reforestation Projects in Spain

The Alstom Foundation has partnered with Reforesta to kickstart a reforestation project in Montseny Natural Park and Pezuela de Las Torres. This initiative focuses on planting 500 native trees and shrubs to conserve biodiversity and promote ecological restoration. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alstom Foundation’s Role in Biodiversity Conservation
In the Montseny region, efforts will include establishing a seed orchard with 102 chestnut trees critical for the park’s ecosystem. Meanwhile, Pezuela de Las Torres in Madrid will see the planting of 440 trees and shrubs, representing 14 species, to enhance ecological connectivity and aid pollinators.

The Alstom Foundation will fund the project and lead activities like workshops, volunteer events, fencing, and irrigation. Additionally, the initiative includes preparing land for planting and raising awareness about environmental conservation among local communities.
Partnerships Supporting Alstom Foundation’s Reforestation Efforts
To ensure effective execution, Reforesta will hire individuals in vulnerable situations and collaborate with Fundació Acció Baix Montseny in Catalonia. This partnership aims to promote employment opportunities for people with disabilities, reinforcing the project’s social impact.
Founded in 2007, the Alstom Foundation supports projects proposed by its employees in collaboration with NGOs. Its initiatives span mobility access, environmental protection, energy and water access, and socioeconomic development. For the 2024/2025 period, it will finance 33 projects chosen from 268 proposals.
Alstom Spain has a robust industrial and technological presence across Catalonia, Madrid, and the Basque Country. With 3,200 employees and decades of innovation, it plays a pivotal role in sustainable rail transport and mobility. Notably, one in three trains in Spain is manufactured by Alstom.
Reforesta, a non-profit established in 1991, has planted over 77,000 trees to combat desertification and restore biodiversity. This season, it plans to plant 9,950 additional trees, furthering its mission to safeguard forest ecosystems.
This collaboration between Alstom and Reforesta underscores a shared commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. By addressing both ecological and social challenges, the project sets an example of impactful corporate responsibility.
