JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” announced a large-scale renovation of the track and warned of a possible decrease in the speed of cargo transportation.

UZ resumes work on the repair of the railway track in the main directions. “This became possible due to the restoration of the rhythmic supply of materials for the superstructure of the tracks,” the company says.

This is reported by railway magazine Railway Supply citing UZ.

Elements of the track superstructure have been delivered from September 1, 2021. These are almost 8 thousand tons of R65 rails, elements of turnouts, clamps and fasteners, in particular 585 tons of KB65 tie plates and almost 500 tons of 1R65 fish plates.

For the period of the work, a decrease in the speed of transportation is predicted, and as a result, the turnover of freight cars. Ukrzaliznytsia urges cargo owners to take a responsible approach to planning transportation and take into account these circumstances.

During October-November 2021, large-scale work is planned on the directions of international railway crossings in western Ukraine.

The works, which were supposed to be carried out in the spring-summer of 2021, were not completed through the actually disrupted process of procurement of materials and elements of the track superstructure. This issue was raised at the first meeting of the Anti-Crisis Headquarters on the issues of stable functioning of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, which took place in September.

In the coming months, the railway workers are planning to reconstruct 64 km of railway tracks, and to update 130 km with medium repairs. This will reduce the number of sections where speed limits are in effect and significantly revitalize freight and passenger traffic.

In total, in 2021, Ukrzaliznytsia JSC will renew 1.1 thousand km of track by various types of repairs, about 300 km – overhaul and almost 800 km – with medium repairs.

Also, technical re-equipment of 282 sets of new turnouts will be carried out, 146 sets of turnouts will be overhauled and 600 sets have been repaired with medium repairs.
