Algeria to Launch Locomotive Plant with John Cockerill

Algeria signed a memorandum with John Cockerill to launch locomotive production and reduce its reliance on imported rolling stock as part of its new transport strategy. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The engineering group John Cockerill and Algerian company Cital SPA agreed to establish a new facility for locomotive manufacturing. This initiative will strengthen the country’s industrial base.

Algeria Expands Locomotive Manufacturing with John Cockerill
Cital SPA is a joint venture between Alstom, Ferrovial, SNTF, and the Algiers Metro (EMA). The company focuses on assembling and maintaining Alstom Citadis trams.
The project is expected to generate economic benefits, including new jobs, a boost in the component market, and improved workforce skills. It will also enhance industrial independence.
