Alberta Launches Virtual Sessions on Rail Master Plan Progress
25.06.2025
Alberta invites residents to join virtual sessions that outline the province’s rail master plan, which includes high-speed service, airport links, and regional rail development across key communities. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alberta Outlines Vision for High-Speed and Regional Rail
Alberta’s rail strategy focuses on building a high-speed line between Edmonton and Calgary, with added connections from downtown areas to both airports. Plans also cover rail access to Banff and Jasper.

Over time, the network could expand to Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, and Grande Prairie. The province plans to create a Crown corporation to develop infrastructure and manage daily operations. The project will require billions in investment, though no final timeline has been set.
Public Engagement Continues Across Alberta
Premier Danielle Smith and Minister Devin Dreeshen introduced the plan in April 2024. Since then, Alberta has organized open houses, Indigenous consultations, and a global rail forum in Calgary.
Now, the government is offering three virtual sessions to share the latest updates. Calgary residents can attend on Tuesday at 7 p.m., Edmonton residents on Wednesday, and a province-wide session is set for Thursday, also at 7 p.m.
Residents can register online through the official government portal. The province expects to complete the master and delivery plans by summer.
These documents will guide policy discussions in the fall and align with the 2026 budget cycle, setting the groundwork for long-term rail development in Alberta.
