Ahmedabad to Introduce LRT System in AMC’s Proposed 2025-26 Budget. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Ahmedabad is set to enhance urban transport with an LRT system, focusing on sustainability and efficiency. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) unveiled this plan in its 2025-26 draft budget today.
Ahmedabad’s LRT to Boost Sustainable Urban Mobility
Authorities recognize the city’s rapid expansion and rising demand for improved public transportation. The planned LRT will provide a fast, clean alternative to Metro, BRTS, and AMTS buses.

This system will operate along a high-mobility corridor, easing congestion and integrating with major transit hubs. Key connections include SP Ring Road, SG Highway, and busy commercial zones.
AMC officials emphasize LRT’s role in reducing emissions and supporting urban development. A feasibility study will analyze infrastructure needs, ensuring seamless commuter access.
New LRT Corridors to Improve Ahmedabad’s Connectivity
Four designated corridors will enhance connectivity across major business and residential areas. These planned routes address high-traffic zones and daily commuter needs.
The first corridor spans 20.5 km from Delhi Darwaja to Jaspur, improving regional transit. Another 18 km route will connect Riverfront West (Ellisbridge) with Shantipura.
A third 14 km corridor will link Navrangpura Circle (Riverfront West) to Supercity Circle (Santej). The longest 22 km stretch will run between Civil Hospital and Narol Circle.
City planners highlight the LRT’s potential to reduce reliance on private vehicles. Integrated with existing public transport, it will streamline daily commuting.
AMC prioritizes modern transit infrastructure, anticipating a significant shift in travel behavior. Public consultation and expert analysis will refine final project details.
This initiative aligns with Ahmedabad’s sustainability goals, aiming to cut congestion and pollution. Efficient transit solutions will support economic and social progress.
Government officials will oversee technical studies and financial allocations for project feasibility. The AMC plans phased implementation to minimize construction disruptions.
The project supports Ahmedabad’s urban growth strategy, enhancing transport efficiency while strengthening infrastructure. Further discussions will determine exact timelines and cost estimates.
Local authorities recognize residents’ need for reliable, affordable public transport. The LRT system aims to meet these demands while improving connectivity.
As planning progresses, officials encourage public input to shape this transformative transport solution. The proposed network will redefine Ahmedabad’s future mobility landscape.
