Agra Metro trial run clears 6 km ISBT extension test
04.01.2026
In 2025, Agra Metro trial run on the up line between Mankameshwar and the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) was completed successfully, as reported by Rail Analysis. The 6 km test ran smoothly, reflecting steady technical and construction progress.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Agra Metro trial run: The 6 km section to ISBT
The Mankameshwar–ISBT trial run was conducted on the up-line track and points to system readiness progressing beyond Mankameshwar station. Track work on this section is complete, which leaves the project positioned to move on to extended test runs. Those longer trials are intended to support broader operational readiness across the planned corridors.

Once operational, the expanded metro network is expected to benefit lakhs of daily commuters in Agra, as testing and construction continue.
UPMRCL and the state’s metro programme
The Agra Metro Rail Project is being executed under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL), a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, as stated in the UPMRC Annual Report 2024–25 (English PDF). Under UPMRCL’s leadership, three metro projects are being implemented in the state: Lucknow Metro, Kanpur Metro, and Agra Metro.
UPMRCL frames these programmes around delivering world-class, environment-friendly, safe, and efficient public transport systems. It also describes its role in supporting Uttar Pradesh’s push to become a “Metro Pradesh,” and notes that the state has the highest number of metro projects in the country.
Corridors, stations and the 2024 priority opening
Planned as a world-class Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), the Agra Metro Rail Project aims to provide safe, fast, reliable, and convenient transportation for Agra, a densely populated city with a population of approximately 25 lakh. The project is intended to strengthen public transport and reduce dependence on road-based travel, improving connectivity across major residential, commercial, and cultural zones.
Two metro corridors have been planned with a combined length of 29.4 km. Corridor 1 runs from Taj East Gate to Sikandara over 14 km, with 13 stations in total—six elevated and seven underground. Corridor 2 connects Agra Cantt. to Kalindi Vihar over 15.4 km and is planned with 14 elevated stations.
A key milestone was achieved earlier when Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated metro rail services on the Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar priority section on 6 March 2024, as previously covered by Railway Supply. With the up-line track work now complete between ISBT and Mankameshwar, trial runs can move beyond Mankameshwar, bringing the project closer to full corridor operations and highlighting steady execution and commitment to timelines.
As construction and testing advance, Agra Metro continues moving toward a modern, safe, and efficient transport system designed to improve everyday mobility across the city.
