Adif invests €95.6 million to modernize signaling systems on the Córdoba–Espeluy section, aiming to boost capacity and reliability on a key southern rail corridor in Spain. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The line stretches 130 km and connects Córdoba with Ciudad Real. It is part of the Madrid–Seville route, serving both passenger and freight traffic across the region.

Adif upgrades signaling and telecom systems
The project includes the installation of advanced centralized control systems integrated with dispatch centers and replacement of outdated telecom equipment. These steps will enhance train traffic management efficiency.

Additionally, tenders for upgrading neighboring segments—Espeluy–Ciudad Real (94 km) and Córdoba–Seville (75 km)—have already been completed. This progress supports a comprehensive modernization of Spain’s southern rail network.
Adif strengthens TEN-T strategic corridors
The plan also covers reconstruction of 11 tunnels, eight bridges, and infrastructure at Pedro Abad station to accommodate freight trains up to 750 meters long. The traction power supply system will be upgraded on several key sections.
The Madrid–Seville mainline is part of two TEN-T corridors: the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Adif is promoting multimodal freight operations, including the transport of semi-trailers by rail from the port of Algeciras to Madrid and Zaragoza.
This investment marks a significant step in strengthening rail transport, improving safety, and accelerating freight flows. Moreover, it lays the foundation for sustainable logistics development across Spain.
