On Monday, the carrier’s representative, Cezary Nowak, announced the commencement of procedures for acquiring new carriages. The deadline for submissions is April 8th.
Interested companies can submit their proposals, which will then be carefully analyzed.
The new carriages, designed for speeds of 200 km/h, will be equipped with modern amenities such as wireless internet, air conditioning, 230V outlets, and USB sockets.
Additionally, PKP Intercity intends to procure carriages adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility and for transporting bicycles.
The carriages must obtain operating permits not only in Poland but also in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, and Lithuania.
This investment is part of the “PKP Intercity – Railway of Major Investments” strategy, which aims to spend 27 billion zlotys on the modernization of rolling stock and infrastructure.
The goals of this strategy include launching more trains, increasing passenger numbers to almost 90 million per year, and improving travel quality.
So far, PKP Intercity has invested 11 billion zlotys in modernizing its fleet, modernizing over 900 carriages, and acquiring new locomotives and trains.
