Renfe KSA, a subsidiary of the Spanish carrier in Saudi Arabia, will hire 30 women to operate high-speed trains next year.

This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Renfe.

In Saudi Arabia, a Spanish-Saudi consortium of 12 Spanish companies and two Saudi companies is responsible for the development of the high-speed railway for the Haramain Railway Highspeed project. Renfe is the largest shareholder (26.9%) of the entire Al Shoula consortium. 30 female drivers will join the ranks of Renfe KSA – the Saudi branch of Renfe Operadora – next year to drive trains.

First female train driver at Koleje Mazowieckie

The hiring has been cleared by the Transport General Authority, the Saudi Arabian government agency that regulates transport, Renfe said. The new hires will become the first female train drivers in Saudi Arabian history. Renfe KSA currently employs 55 Saudi train drivers, 48 of them are trained by the Spanish.

The Haramain Railway Highspeed is a high-speed service between Mecca and Medina.

The length of the double-track railway is 452.9 km. Trains on the route accelerate up to 300 km/h.
