17.04.2025
UK Power Networks Services has signed a £24 million contract to upgrade power infrastructure across the London Underground, supporting expanded service and the rollout of new trains on the Piccadilly line. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract represents the second phase of works required to support the introduction of the new ‘24 Tube Stock’ trains. When complete, it will enable 27 trains per hour during peak times on the Piccadilly line.

In addition, the upgrade will enhance electrical capacity for the Northern line. This boost to the network will improve service reliability and accommodate growing passenger demand.
Engineers will modernize substations and install high-voltage equipment at Neasden, Acton Town, and Ravenscourt Park. Work began on 25 March and is set for completion by 2027.
London Underground Infrastructure Partnership Strengthens
UK Power Networks Services will manage the entire process—from design to delivery. The company specializes in distributed energy solutions, power management, and infrastructure support.
Its portfolio includes major clients such as Network Rail, Ministry of Defence, Felixstowe Port, and Canary Wharf. Its services span consulting, asset management, and operations.
The firm previously secured a £40 million contract for the Piccadilly line in June 2022. It has also delivered substation upgrades across the Metropolitan, Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines.
David Mitchell, Director at UK Power Networks Services, emphasized the value of the new contract. “We are proud to advance critical upgrades that support the London Underground and enable next-generation transportation,” he said.
This collaboration reinforces UK Power Networks Services’ role in shaping London’s transport future. It ensures the city’s underground system remains resilient, efficient, and ready for tomorrow’s needs.
