200 mainline and shunting locomotives for Kazakhstan

Chinese CRRC will supply up to 200 mainline and shunting locomotives to Kazakhstan for $1.3 billion, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
This was reported by the press service of the country’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev following his meeting with CRRC President Sun Yunci at the ‘Belt and Road’ forum.

The framework agreement signed by the manufacturer with the national carrier ‘Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’ (KTZ) also includes the establishment of engineering and service centers in Kazakhstan.
CRRC’s investment in the project is expected to amount to $200 million.
It was previously reported that CRRC plans to establish a locomotive assembly plant in the country in cooperation with SilkwayTransit.
Major contracts for locomotive supply to KTZ are currently held by Wabtec (diesel locomotives) and Alstom (electric locomotives).
According to Tokayev, over the past 20 years, CRRC has supplied around 300 locomotives and passenger cars, as well as 6,000 freight cars to Kazakhstan.
