$1 Summer Train Tickets New York are now available every Saturday, letting monthly pass holders bring up to two guests aboard LIRR or Metro-North for just $1 each. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

New Yorkers looking for affordable weekend travel have a reason to celebrate, as the MTA reintroduces its Summer Saturday discount program across the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. The offer allows monthly ticket holders to ride anywhere in the network and bring along up to two passengers for only $1 each, making summer rail travel both convenient and cost-effective.

How the $1 Summer Train Tickets New York Program Works?
From July 5 to August 30, valid monthly pass holders can travel on any LIRR or Metro-North route, regardless of the station listed on their ticket. The promotion applies only on Saturdays and includes up to two additional travelers per rider. These $1 companion tickets can be purchased in the TrainTime app under the Family Fares section or directly on board trains without extra fees.
Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the initiative’s role in boosting public transit ridership and regional tourism. “Whether it’s the beaches of Long Island, city attractions like Broadway, or scenic Hudson Valley trails, trains are the best way to explore—and this program makes it even easier.”
Important Notes for Using the $1 Summer Train Tickets New York
However, there are key restrictions riders should know. The discount does not apply across rail systems, so LIRR passes cannot be used on Metro-North and vice versa. Additionally, certain peak services are excluded. These include the 7:13, 8:14, and 10:29 a.m. Montauk-bound trains from Jamaica, and the 7:47 a.m. train from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma along with its 9:14 a.m. Greenport connection.
Despite these limits, the $1 Summer Train Tickets New York promotion delivers unbeatable value for weekend trips—helping New Yorkers explore more while spending less.
