New stations along the network will support six major lines linking Cardiff to Aberdare, Coryton, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney, and Treherbert. Each route features multiple stops to serve commuters efficiently.

Next-Generation Travel with the South Wales Metro

With features inspired by the London Underground, the South Wales Metro includes a colour-coded map and contactless payment systems. Live display boards will provide real-time updates on upcoming services.

Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, and Treherbert will have trains every 15 minutes. Caerphilly commuters will benefit from six trains an hour, while Pontypridd passengers can expect one every five minutes to Cardiff.

Eight of the new vehicles already operate on the Rhymney line. Each train includes air conditioning and power outlets, offering comfort and convenience for daily riders.

How the South Wales Metro Will Impact the Region?

Besides easing travel, the South Wales Metro supports broader goals—stimulating the economy, reducing emissions, and promoting sustainability across the region.

Its user-friendly design and enhanced frequency make it a game-changer for commuters and tourists alike. The project’s first phase is on track for full completion later this year.

The South Wales Metro stands as a symbol of Wales’ commitment to smart infrastructure and regional growth. Residents can now look forward to a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly commute.
