AtkinsRéalis has secured Riyadh Metro engineering contracts covering services and supervision for the network’s continued operation and expansion, following agreements signed in the Saudi capital on 9 July.

Contracts cover metro operation and expansion

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City awarded the contracts during the Saudi-Canadian Investment Forum. The package places AtkinsRéalis in a support role for both the operating network and its planned expansion, rather than announcing a new line opening or completed construction.

The contract announcement⁠ also links the metro work to a wider infrastructure investment programme across Riyadh. It does not disclose the value, duration or detailed division of the engineering and supervision assignments, and it does not identify which expansion projects are covered.

AtkinsRéalis already has experience on the system. Its official Riyadh Metro project profile⁠ says the company has delivered programme management and supervision services for the network’s operations and maintenance.

Six autonomous lines span 176 kilometres

Riyadh Metro began a phased introduction in December 2024. The network comprises six lines covering 176 kilometres and serving 85 stations, making it Saudi Arabia’s longest autonomous metro network.

A later AtkinsRéalis overview⁠ describes the network as fully operational and says the phased opening was completed in January 2025. The new contracts therefore concern support for an operating metro alongside future development, not delivery of the original network.

The latest award continues the relationship between AtkinsRéalis and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, but the announcement leaves the commercial terms and specific expansion timetable undisclosed.
