Passenger amenities and security upgrades were the focus of a Friday review at Rail Bhawan. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw chaired the review with senior railway officials. The Railway Ministry said, “The meeting focused on measures like access control, crowd management, technology-driven surveillance, and ease of mobility within station premises.”
It added, “These reforms will first be implemented at New Delhi Railway Station and, based on the lessons learned, will subsequently be rolled out to other stations.”

AI surveillance and staff identification
At the same time, officials said New Delhi Railway Station will get comprehensive AI-powered surveillance. Cameras will cover platforms. They will cover concourses. They will cover entry points. They will cover exit points. They will also cover areas prone to unauthorised access.
Also, officials said a colour-coded identification system would be introduced. It would cover all personnel working at the station. The move is intended to support uniformity and accountability across the large workforce.
For example, the statement described the jacket system in these terms. The statement said, “Railway employees will wear fluorescent jackets, while non-employees, including vendors, station sahayaks, contractual staff, and IRCTC personnel, will also wear colour-coded jackets of some other colour.”
It further stated, “This is being done to enable the swift identification of passengers, employees and other non-employees like coolies, the staff of vendors, food, cleaning, parcel and maintenance personnel, present in the station premises, with whom the security authorities & the ticket checking staff engage, while performing their duties.”
QR code-based access control and last-mile connectivity
Still, other measures include piloting a QR code-based access control system at New Delhi Railway Station. In addition, the measures include integrating the RailOne App with Bharat Taxi. This is for seamless last-mile connectivity. Also, they include improving signage at all stations.
The ministry said these steps reflect Indian Railways’ effort. It aims to turn the country’s busiest stations into safe spaces. It also aims to make them well-organised and passenger-friendly spaces.
