This four-year initiative allocates $4 million to support businesses in affected Maryland counties. MDOT officials emphasize the program’s role in maintaining economic stability during ongoing construction.
Grants offer up to $50,000, depending on business location, construction impact, and eligibility criteria. Priority is given to companies within community development zones needing immediate financial aid.
How MDOT Grants Help Small Businesses?
Applicants can submit forms in up to three rounds per year, ensuring continuous funding. The first application deadline is March 14, with details available at purplelinemd.com.
Small businesses must operate within one-quarter mile of the Purple Line and have been open since January 1, 2022. They must also meet financial or employment criteria for eligibility.
Businesses qualify if they have 50 or fewer employees, generate $2 million or less annually, or hold certification under Maryland’s Small Business Reserve Program.
“These grants will help businesses remain open despite construction challenges, ensuring future success,” said Paul Wiedefeld, highlighting the state’s commitment to economic growth.
Once completed, the Purple Line will enhance regional transit by connecting Metrorail, Amtrak, and MARC services. This expansion will improve transportation options for businesses and residents.
