Railway bridges in Srikakulam have received a Rs 3,300 crore central government sanction. It covers 54 bridges at railway gates across the district. The works are expected to make crossings easier for local commuters. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

As reported by The Times of India, the initiative is described as the first of its kind in the country. Also, the programme includes multiple bridge projects. These works are meant to reduce traffic problems at railway level crossing gates. These gates are points where roads and railway tracks meet at the same level. They close when trains approach to protect road users. In addition, the planned bridges and flyovers are expected to be completed within two years.

Separately, central minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu attended the groundbreaking ceremony. It was for a flyover on the road at Neelavathi village in the Palasa area.

Railway bridges in Srikakulam and related rail works

Also, railway authorities are working on a third railway line. They are carrying out measures linked to high-speed trains. These works are expected to benefit both the local public and travellers.

Separately, the Railway Board recently shifted the Palasa to Icchapuram railway stations. This removed them from the East Coast Railways jurisdiction. The Railway Board also merged them with the newly formed South Coast Railway Zone.

Flyovers and underpasses in two divisions

Meanwhile, railway authorities are working to remove level crossing gates in the Khurda Division and Waltair Division. The work involves flyovers and underpasses. In addition, detailed project reports have been prepared. They cover the Waltair Division and Khurda Road Division. Also, railway officials have agreed to build the bridges and related infrastructure.

For example, the first phase will cover 17 flyovers. They include Talabhadra, Neelavati, Baaligaon, Palavaalsa, Karapadu and other locations. The remaining works are planned for the second phase.
