Gujarat rail projects worth ₹891 crore are due for inauguration and dedication during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gujarat visit, according to ETInfra. The one-day visit is set for Tuesday, March 31. Also, the programme includes a new train service.

The Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office said the package supports rail modernisation in the state. It also said the projects are meant to accelerate regional development in Gujarat. Among the schemes to be inaugurated is the Himmatnagar-Khed Brahma new line. It is 55 km long. A Ministry of Railways reply in Parliament lists its cost at ₹482 crore. At the same time, the line is expected to improve transport links in Sabarkantha district. It is also expected to make travel faster and more affordable. Also, it will directly link the region with Ahmedabad and Udaipur.

The project is also expected to improve access to services such as healthcare and education. In addition, it is expected to create new livelihood opportunities for local communities.

New line and capacity upgrades in Gujarat

During the same visit, the Prime Minister will dedicate two rail capacity projects to the nation. One is the Kanalus-Jamnagar doubling project. It covers 27 km and was built for ₹257 crore. The other is the Gandhidham-Adipur multitracking project. It covers 11 km and was constructed for ₹152 crore.

Separately, these works are expected to make train movement smoother and faster. They are also expected to improve freight-handling efficiency. For example, they strengthen links to key industrial hubs and ports, including Deendayal Port. Meanwhile, they are also expected to reduce transit times and lower logistics costs. They are also expected to boost tourism and improve market access for farmers and industries.

Khedbrahma to Ahmedabad train service

Another part of the programme is the launch of a new train service from Khedbrahma to Ahmedabad via Himmatnagar. At the same time, the service will provide direct rail connectivity to the region. It is also expected to make daily commuting more convenient, affordable, and efficient. Also, it is expected to support local economic activity and tourism.
