Dozens of people were injured when two regional trains derailed in Switzerland. The cause of the events was probably very strong winds and rain that washed out the tracks, Railway Supply reports, citing Raport Kolejowy.

The incident took place on Friday in northwestern Switzerland. The accidents took place near the canton of Bern. The site of the first crash was several tens of kilometres away from the second.

The first incident occurred around 4.30pm near the town of Bien. The second regional train derailed 20 minutes later. This accident occurred in the municipality of Buren Hof. The rear part of the train derailed. The wagons overturned.

Dozens of people were seriously injured. Police are working to find out the causes and circumstances of the accident. The wind was reportedly blowing at 122 km/h when the cars derailed.
