During a meeting of the Export Office under UZ on Wednesday, UZ Deputy Director of Commercial Work Department Valeriy Tkachev said that 12.2 million tonnes of cargo were transported by rail in March 2023. This is the highest monthly figure since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Railway Supply magazine reported this, citing Rail.insider.

UZ march

According to operational data, 12.2m tonnes of freight was transported by rail during March 2023. This is 3.9m tonnes, or 47% more than for the same month last year, and 1m tonnes, or 8.7%, higher than in February 2023.

During the first month of spring, 5.3m tonnes were exported. Compared to the same period last year, the indicator grew by 73.4%, and by 4% against February.

UZ will not ban the transportation of grain in gondola cars

In the structure of export shipments for March 2023, the first place belongs to grains – 2.5 mln tons (47%), the second – to iron and manganese ore – 1.7 mln tons (33%), the third – to ferrous metals – 0.4 mln tons (6%).

Despite the confident leading of grain shipments in March, their export volumes fell by 14.4% compared to the previous month. In particular, the decline was recorded in shipments to seaports. One of the reasons for this is the poor performance of the grain corridor due to sabotage by Russian inspectors.

At the same time, there was an increase in export shipments of ore (by 32.2%) and ferrous metals (by 11.1%).

In addition, there was a 51% increase in cement shipments. In March, this indicator amounted to 80 thousand tons (+27 thousand tons compared to February).
