Japan’s Kinki Sharyo and Mitsubishi Corporation have received an order worth 351.2 million to supply 184 metro cars for Line 4 of the Cairo Metro.

Kinki Sharyo will be responsible for the production of rolling stock, while Mitsubishi, as the main contractor for the construction of the new line, will oversee the implementation of the contract.

The deliveries are to be completed in 2025-2028, reports railway magazine Railway Supply.

Spain’s CAF has awarded a contract worth nearly 180 million to modernize 23 metro trains that run on Line 1 of the Cairo Metro. The project will be implemented in partnership with Mitsubishi.

The modernization will affect the renewal of traction motors, safety systems, etc. Financing will be provided by the Spanish fund FIEM. The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) signed an agreement with the American Wabtec for the supply of 100 Evolution ES30ACi diesel locomotives in 2023. The purchase is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
