The Belarusian Railway intends to expand the practice of a pilot project to automate the control of shunting locomotives.

control system for shunting locomotives

The automated workstation of the shunting dispatcher was developed on the basis of the existing automated control system of the station for solving problems related to the optimization of station work, reports Railway Supply magazine.

The work of the automated workplace is based on the use of geographic information systems. Using GIS technologies, this workplace allows to carry out online dispatch control over the dislocation of shunting locomotives, automatically record the start and end times of shunting operations, take into account the distance traveled by the locomotive and the number of wagons moved, as well as determine the load and productivity.

The pilot project was implemented in 2021 at the Stepyanka station of the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Railway, where the automated workstation of the DCS was introduced into commercial operation.

Express Service battery-electric shunting locomotives – reliable solution for shunting operations

Currently, preparations are underway to introduce this system at the stations of the Belarusian Railway. It is planned that the system will cover all railway junctions, as well as all large stations at which shunting operations are carried out.

As a reminder, since the beginning of 2021, the Belarusian railway has transported more than 1,000,000 TEU containers in all types of traffic.

Consequently, for 9 months of 2021, the volume of transit container traffic increased by 1.4 times, compared to the same period in 2020.
