BART cancels Green Line on October 18 and single-tracks San Leandro–Bay Fair
BART Green Line service will be cancelled all day on Sunday, October 18, and trains between San Leandro and Bay Fair will share one track, with 25–30-minute delays expected.

Work crews will occupy the track on that section to clear vegetation that could threaten safe, reliable operation, as BART’s service alert for October 18 explains. The work starts before the first trains of the day and is scheduled to finish at 6pm. All 50 stations will stay open.
Transfers at Bay Fair replace the Green Line
East Bay passengers who normally take the Green Line across the bay are advised to ride the Orange Line to Bay Fair and change there to a Blue Line train. Passengers starting in San Francisco can make the same journey in reverse, taking the Blue Line to Bay Fair and switching to the Orange Line.
To carry people who would usually be on the Green Line, BART will run Orange and Blue line trains with eight cars instead of six for the whole day.
On a regular weekend, the Green Line links Berryessa/North San José with Daly City and calls at both Bay Fair and San Leandro, with daytime trains leaving about every 20 minutes, as shown in BART’s weekend Green Line timetable.
Green Line closures for vegetation work since October 2025
This is not the first Sunday on which BART has cancelled the Green Line for trackside vegetation work. On October 15, 2025, a tree came down across the tracks near Union City Station and disrupted service for several hours. BART then scheduled single-track Sunday work on sections between Bay Fair and Fremont from November 2025 to January 2026. The first of these closures, between Union City and Bay Fair on November 9, was set out in BART’s alert for that date, which ties the work to the fallen tree. The October 18 alert does not link the San Leandro work to that incident.
| Sunday | Section on one track and work hours | Impact announced by BART | Green Line |
|---|---|---|---|
| November 9, 2025 | Union City–Bay Fair, 8am to noon | One train every 40 minutes on the section | No service until 1pm |
| December 7, 2025 | Fremont–South Hayward, 8am to 5pm | Delays of 15–20 minutes | No service all day |
| January 11, 2026 | Near Hayward Station, 8am to 5pm | Delays of 20–25 minutes | No service all day |
| October 18, 2026 | San Leandro–Bay Fair, from before the first trains until 6pm | Delays of 25–30 minutes | No service all day |
Of the BART alerts in this table that give a delay range, the 25–30-minute estimate for October 18 is the highest. Sources: BART service alerts for November 9, 2025, December 7, 2025, January 11, 2026 and October 18, 2026.
